These kits were designed specifically for the Van's RV series aircraft and we have put together various kit configurations to suit anyone's preference.

MilSpec's cowling fastener kits have been developed and refined with exhaustive research and over 16 years of real world field experience. These stainless cowling kits use MilSpec's FAA approved 4000 series fastening system with our MS245 adjustable depth receptacles. Kits are available with either a collared, slotted head or cross recess (Phillips) head studs. These kits are for the main engine cowling. Optional fasteners in many sizes and styles are available for other panels such as the oil door, interior panels etc. These can be found on our Pre-Engineered Fastener Sets Page.

What are the Installation Parameters ?
Each Builder Will Have Their Own Preference but, These Kits Assume Approx. 3.5" Spacing Between Fasteners. Much wider spacing can be used with reinforcement strips.
Distance From the Edge of the Cowling to the Center of the Fastener Hole Requires 5/8" Min.
The Support Lip Width Should be a Minimum of 1-1/8" (preferably 1-1/2").
The Minimum Thickness for the Support Lip is .040"
Bulging Between Fastener Holes is not a Concern With These Kits When Used on Newer Generation Cowlings but, for Earlier Cowls Try our MilSpec MS2D Reinforcement Material. This is a simple strip of woven fiberglass tape that can be laid up adjacent to the fastener line to stiffen the cowling along its edge.

This tool just made MilSpec Adjustable Depth receptacles easier to install than ever! Do you know how thick your cowling is? Can you turn a screwdriver? Well, that is all the skill required to fit virtually any panel! Simply lock this tool into the receptacle, turn to the appropriate setting, remove the tool and lock the receptacle. No need to " fit " the cowling in place to find the right depth. Just use this tool and go right to final assembly! This tool is not mandatory for installation like some knock off designs but, it can be very helpful in speeding the installation. Full instructions included.
