GENERAL PURPOSE C-SPEC FASTENERS
2600, 2700 and 2800 Series
|
FAA Approved for Aircraft Use Under TSO-C-148A |
| * Please note: Due to environmental regulations, steel parts are no longer cad plated. The plating used is bright zinc with yellow chromate. This gives the same appearance as cad with similar corrosion protection but is more environmentally friendly. Cad is available as an option, however minimum quantities may apply. Contact us for details if cad plating is required. |

| 2600, 2700 and 2800 Series C-Spec Fastener Basics |
|
These series are
perfect for light to medium duty
applications. They are small enough to fit in limited mounting space
and are light weight. All of these fasteners have a 600# ultimate
tensile load capacity. All dimensions on this page are in inches unless otherwise
specified. For metric conversion use this formula: Inches x 25.4 =
mm. mm ÷ 25.4 = Inches.
The first thing to do when selecting any fastening system is to measure your Total Material Thickness (TMT). This is simply the thickness of the outer panel, the inside panel (or support structure), and any gaskets or gaps between panels. Add all of these together for your Total Material Thickness. When using a gasket between panels we recommend using 1/2” of the gaskets uncompressed thickness for these calculations. When using the 2600, 2700 or 2800 series you will need 3 parts to make up the system. A stud, retainer, and receptacle. There are many options for each of these items as you will see below. Selecting the proper components for your application is simple using the data tables below. If you have any questions or need additional information, please Contact Us and we will be glad to help. When designing a new application it is best to select components from the inside out. 1.) First, determine which Receptacle you want to use. See Table # 1. Consider any restrictions of mounting space or accessibility issues. 2.) Next, select the type of stud retainer you wish to use. Semi-rigid retainers are best for flat panels. Floating retainers usually work best on sliding or curved panels. See Table # 2. 3.) Then select the Stud Series and Head Style you wish to use. See Table # 3. 4.) Finally, select a Stud and Material from Table # 4, # 5, # 6 or # 7. In the far right column of each table is the stud's total length dimension. This can be used to easily identify an existing stud which requires replacement. Once you have determined all of the above and selected the components to be used, be sure to reference Table # 8 to select the appropriate associated tooling. Some tools are not absolutely necessary but are very helpful in assuring proper hole spacing, hole diameters, and a proper installation. * Please Note: We also offer Pre-Engineered fasteners sets that have all of the proper components packaged in simple set ups for 90% of most common applications. |

Table # 1 2600, 2700 and 2800 Series Receptacles |
||||||||||
|
Receptacles are available in several styles. There are many options but, the most important distinction to make is do you want to use fixed depth or adjustable depth receptacles as this will greatly affect the stud selection process. The original standard system used fixed depth receptacles and various stud lengths to fit different panel thicknesses. This configuration is limited to small variations in material thickness (0.030") from one stud length to the next. Later, MilSpec developed an adjustable depth receptacle which allows a much wider material thickness range for a given stud length than the original design (0.300"). This not only simplifies the installation but dramatically reduces inventory costs for the fabricator. For your convenience, we stock both fixed depth and adjustable depth styles. If the materials to be fastened are of a consistent thickness at each fastener location either type will work very well. If the thickness is variable at different fastener locations we recommend the adjustable depth receptacles for ease of use. After selecting the basic type of receptacle to be used, refer to the tables below to select from the various styles, options, materials, etc. The receptacles are usually attached to the support (inside) panel with rivets. The Rigid Style is a fixed depth, solid, machined piece. This style does not allow for misalignment of fastener to receptacle holes. They are available with plain rivet holes (most common) or countersunk rivet holes. The countersunk rivet holes allow relief for receptacles to be attached to thin sheet metal panels that have dimpled holes for flush attachment rivets. Various materials are available for any receptacle type or style. We recommend MS213 type receptacles for most applications for their ease of use and simplicity. Table # 2
2600 / 2700 and 2800 Series Stud Retainers |
|
A stud retainer is placed on the stud
after it is installed in the panel hole, on the inside of the
panel to keep the stud assembly with the panel when the fastener
is unlocked. The SW type works best for curved or sliding
panels. The rigid LW and 27S5-1 types keep the stud firmly in
place and work better on flat panels.
